Hello, I’m Donna Anderson. I live in Columbus, Ohio, USA, and I ‘work’ at Joann Fabrics on W. Broad St. I say ‘work’ because most of the time it’s not really work at all. For me, a workday is 5 – 8 hours of daydreaming, imagining all of the wonderful things I can create from all of the beautiful fabrics I’m surrounded by all day long.
I spend most of each workday in the fabric department, generally behind the cutting counter, where I also get to chat with all the guests who, like me, also lose vast amounts of time daydreaming among the bolts and bolts of fabulous fabrics. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had someone apologize for ‘petting’ the fabrics but it’s really not necessary – I know exactly what you mean. I do it myself!
From time to time I do manage to tear myself away from the fabric side of the store and make my way to the foodcrafting section. I’ve spent too many years to count decorating cakes and I have 2 grandsons who absolutely love cake, so I’m always looking for some new way to surprise them when our dessert day rolls around.
I’ve also been known to dabble in papercrafting, a bit of Mod Podge-ing, jewelry-making, and crocheting. So now you can really see why my ‘job’ isn’t really a job at all. Every day is a paid holiday for me and yes, you guessed it, my paycheck comes from, and goes right back to, Joann Fabrics 🙂
I hope you enjoy this blog and if you’re in the area, stop by the cutting counter at Joann Fabrics. I’d love to meet you and maybe we could pet the fabric together!
